Yuyao has a subtropical monsoon
climate, being warm and moist. The four seasons here are distinct while sunlight is
plentiful, having a long history of agriculture and abundant agricultural resources, Yuyao
is a comprehensive agricultural area integrated with forestry, animal husbandry, sideline
occupations and fishery. |

So far, the city has 587,000 mu of cultivated land and 917,000 mu of mountain and
forest areas. It is also dubbed as the land of Yangmei (red bayberry) and Zhacai (pickled
mustard tuber). Over the past few years, its rural economy has finished the transition
from a small-scale peasant structure focused on the production of grain, oil and cotton,
to a modern and diversified agriculture featured by industrialization and intensification.

While the city¨s agriculture featured development has leaped forward along the
track of economies of scale, its agricultural industrialization has been expanded
substantially which resulted in the forming of six farm produce bases of vegetable, tea,
fruit, bamboo shoots, livestock and poultry, and aquatic products. Rural income has
witnessed rapid growth thanks to the development of the rural economy. The city¨s total
agricultural output value reached 2.47 billion yuan in 1998 and farmers¨ per capital net
income stool at 4,451 yuan.
