Brief introduction

	Geographic location and population: Yuyao is located on the famous bank of Hangzhou Bay of the Yangtze River Delta. It is at the foot of the Siming Mountain with abundant water resource in the south and beside the sea with a coastline over 40 kilometers. In the middle area, lies the plain with beauty of the south. The whole city covers an area of 1,527 square kilometers, with a population of 850,000.

Historical culture: Yuyao is a famous historical cultural city in Zhejiang province became a county in Qin Dynasty. It is famous for its historical culture at three major aspects. One is the Hemudu culture with over 7000 years history, the discovery of Hemudu site approved the Yangtze River is also one of the birthplaces of the Chinese nation. Meantime, it also advanced the 5,000 years civilization of Chinese nation for nearly 2,000 years. The second is the “the Yaojiang culture”, Yuyao emerged lots of celebrities since Han dynasty, two of the China 10 thinkers Wang Yangming and Huang Zongxi were both born in Yuyao, Yuyao has the title of “the most county in the Southeast China” and “a celebrated place of outstanding personages and cultural legacies”. The last one is the Zhedong culture for resistance against Japan, it is one of the China 19 bases for resistance against Japan. 　　Agriculture economy: Yuyao has abundant products and has a long history. It is a comprehensive region with completely developed agriculture, forestry, livestock farming, sideline and fishing industry. It is awarded series titles including “hometown of red bayberry in China”, “hometown of pickled mustard tuber in China”, “hometown of wild rice stem in China”, “hometown of sweet pear in China” and “hometown of maple in China”. In recent years, Yuyao speeds up structure regulation, develops the municipal agriculture toward industrialization. Now it has formed six farm produce bases of vegetable, tea, fruit, bamboo shoots, livestock and poultry, and aquatic products. Moreover, a series of famous agriculture products such as “waterfall tea”, “Shunshui sweet pear”, “Guotai pickled mustard tuber”, etc. are emerged. The municipal rural economy and income has witnessed rapid growth. The city's total agricultural output value reached RMB2.66 billion in 2000 and farmers' per capital net income amounted to RMB4,856.

　　Industrial Economy: since opening-up to the outside of the world, Yuyao was always put in the ranks of the top 100 cities in the country. Yuyao has a good assortment of industries and solid foundations, has the title of “hometown of mould, kingdom of plastics”. Industrial economy is based on the pillar industries such as instrument, electronics, plastics, chemical, light fiber spinning, machinery, metal smelting, etc. Besides, block economy dominated by pen-manufacturing, button, lamp, automobile spare part, water heating appliance, lighter industry has covered all over the country. In recent years, Yuyao is also home to some Chinese famous brand products, for example, Shuai Kang, Yuli lampblack cleaner, Fuda vacuum cleaners and Shunda feed. In 2000, the municipal overall industrial output value reached RMB54.8 billion.

　　Export-oriented economy: Yuyao adheres to the strategy of industries driven by export-oriented economy, thus it develops very fast. The total export delivery value in 2000 reached RMB8.8 billion. Yuyao becomes a hot land for overseas investment for its opening-up, sound investment environment and preferential policies, nearly 668 companies have been built by investors from over 30 countries and districts. By now, the city has absorbed USD0.45bl in total. Meantime, Yuyao’s foreign economy and technology co-operation shows more active, now has established seven enterprises in the United States, Germany, France and Australia.

　　Yuyao is also one of the large commercial and trade markets in China. Relying on China Plastics City, which is the largest professional plastics trading market at home, now has successfully staged two plastics exhibitions and one session 2000 Yuyao National Agriculture Machinery Fair, which promoted Yuyao’s opening-up and economy greatly!

　　Investment environment: Yuyao enjoys unique geographical location and excellent infrastructure, thus is favorable for overseas investors. It is one of the “national 7 excellent Taiwanese investment regions”. Xiao-Yong railway, Hu-Hang-Yong expressway, 329 state highway across the land, it is only 45 kilometers from Yuyao to Ningbo Lishe Airport, 60 kilometers to the Beilun Harbor. The city has 10,000 lines of mobile phone, 175,000 lines of program controlled telephones with a popularity of 17.6 lines per one hundred. Due to the abundant water resource, its annual power supply reaches to 0.96 billion kwh, with daily water supply of 10,000 ton. In recent years, in correspondence with the concept of modernized city, the city unfolds large-scale infrastructure construction, develops tourism, culture, education, commerce, food and beverage, entertainment and hotel industry continuously, and forms the prospective 3rd industry in pace with the development of economy.
